Building on the Village:

CAPITAL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

Oshun Family Center needs your help. As a nonprofit organization that plans to service the community for the foreseeable future, we want to mark that journey with a location to call our own. It is important for us to purchase a space that we can grow with and permanently and set our roots in Philadelphia. This gives us the opportunity to give as much as we can back to the community and continue to commit and provide salient services that will reduce and eventually eliminate Black maternal mortality.

OUR vision

Oshun Family Center envisions health equity across the reproductive and mental health spectrum. Families in underrepresented communities require providers who embody
aspects of their life as it relates to race, culture, and ethnicity therefore it is our goal and vision to assist with overcoming the barrier and include race, culture, or ethnicity-based concordance for care.

The mission

Oshun Family Center provides racially concordant care to
members of the Black community who are seeking to achieve
optimal wellness through psychotherapy and holistic healing in addition to birthing support such as doula and lactation services. Our goal is to center Black people’s experiences and create a welcoming space for healing and refuge. We welcome those looking to break generational cycles and
have agency over their mind & bodies.

HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT?

$20,000

This will lend a helping hand to customizing the interior of the building and creating a trauma-informed healing atmosphere.

We can create an oasis feel from the moment you walk on the property by incorporating a green space that feels welcoming and tranquil with well-maintained trees, and flowers, and is environmentally friendly.

$5,000

Helps us curate a safe individual lactation and doula space that is equipped with supplies and materials to support effective methods of breastfeeding and labor support.

$1,000

Assists with essential items needed for appropriate technology for us to seamlessly provide virtual and in-person support services and training.

THE PATH TO OPTIMAL MATERNAL HEALTH & WELLNESS

Our Permanent Home in Philadelphia

This is a big moment! On April 1, 2025, Oshun Family Center officially closed on 3213 Frankford Avenue in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, establishing a permanent home for our work, and for the community we serve.

We’ve already secured $1.2 million in construction funding and are actively raising the remaining $2.7 million to complete renovations and fully bring the Maternal Wellness Village to life. We are deeply grateful to the City of Philadelphia and the State LSA for their critical support in helping us reach this milestone and build real momentum.

Owning our space means we’re investing directly in families, not rent or landlords, and putting down lasting roots in Philadelphia. It strengthens our long-term commitment to community-rooted, culturally responsive care that works toward reducing, and ultimately eliminating, Black maternal mortality.

The Maternal Wellness Village

Our Frankford Avenue home will become the Maternal Wellness Village (MWV), a trauma-informed, healing-centered hub for Black birth workers and practitioners, including doulas, lactation counselors, psychotherapists, pelvic floor therapists, and more. Together, we are building permanent infrastructure for maternal health, strengthening the workforce, expanding access to care, and advancing equitable outcomes for Black birthing families across Philadelphia. This is what building the future of maternal health looks like.

The design and outfit are supported through the Community Design Collaborative and FIFTEEN Architect + Design.

A Note from our Executive Director…

As we stand in this moment, I am filled with deep gratitude and appreciation for each and every person who has walked alongside Oshun Family Center on this journey. What we have built together is not accidental. It is the result of shared vision, trust, and an unwavering commitment to Black maternal health.

Because of your continued support, Oshun is entering one of the most significant chapters in our history. We are no longer imagining what is possible. We are actively building it. We have secured a permanent home, mobilized public and private investment, and are moving forward with the development of Philadelphia’s first Black and women led Maternal Wellness Center. This moment reflects the power of collective belief and sustained action.

Through challenges, growth, and moments that required us to stretch beyond what felt comfortable, your dedication has remained steady. Whether you have contributed time, expertise, resources, advocacy, or care, your support has carried us forward and strengthened our foundation. The impact of this community continues to ripple outward, touching families, shaping systems, and redefining what maternal health care can look like when it is rooted in justice, dignity, and joy.

We are truly building on the Village. This work is bigger than any single year or milestone. It is about longevity, accountability, and creating permanent infrastructure that serves families now and for generations to come. What we are stepping into together is bold, necessary, and deeply grounded in love for our community.

As we look ahead, we do so with clarity and confidence. The work continues, and the road forward will require the same collective care and courage that brought us here. With your continued support, I know we will keep growing, deepening our impact, and reaching new heights together.

Thank you for being the heartbeat of Oshun Family Center. Whether you are a donor, volunteer, staff member, partner, or supporter, your contribution matters and leaves a lasting imprint. I am honored to build this future with you.

Let’s continue to build collectively.
